Any recommendations for a resort in Belize that is on the beach and that we can book excursions through. Looking to stay active, not just sit in the beach. Adventurous teen and tween. |
Matachica (mid range) |
We stayed at Matachica about 14 years ago. I thought it was adults only, but maybe it changed. |
We just got back from Belize for spring break - loved it! We went to Sleeping Giant Hotel which is in a more jungle/mountainous area and Naïa Resort which is on the beach. Lots of adventures/activities at both places for our teens. And it wasn’t too crowded! |
We rented a 2br villa at Maya Beach resort in Placencia and loved it: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g16717331-d502126-Reviews-Maya_Beach_Hotel-Maya_Beach_Placencia_Stann_Creek.html
Definitely more on the adventurous side as Placencia is not nearly as developed or touristy as somewhere like San Pedro but the villas at Maya Beach are well-appointed if not luxurious. A/C, private pool, comfortable beds, everything you need for a fun vacation. |
I head mosquitos are terrible in Belize. That is making me pause on heading to Belize. Is it really that bad in the summer? |
When we went on a tour that went into a very jungly/swampy area, they were def a lot of mosquitoes. But we wore bug spray and it was fine. When we were on the beach and in the mountains, mosquitoes were a non issue. Don’t let it keep you from going! |
Make sure you do ATM cave. |
None in Caye Caulker, but definitely some in the interior parts. |
I think Placencia or that general area is best of you want both beach and excursions. Alternatively sometimes people split their visit between, say, San Ignacio and the Cayes. |
Don Luigi Matras Chocho El Z-Bend Carlito's Hideaway Bella Lindo |
I stayed at the Jaguar Reef lodge some years ago. Loved it! They had a variety of excursions. https://www.thebelizecollection.com/resorts/beach-resorts/jaguar-reef-lodge/

I’m not able to find any of these with a quick google search. Are these places you’ve been to? Can you elaborate? |
The Phoenix Resort in San Pedro is a fantastic base for diving and snorkeling. We also took a short flight inland to stay at a jungle lodge for a few days, which your teens would likely love because they had fantastic excursions, but I can't remember where we stayed - somewhere in the Cayo region. |
