Reviews for this school have been all over the place when I actually get a chance to talk to parents. I originally had my kids on the list for the lottery. Glad I removed him.
PGCPS recommendation to close charter school leaves parents with mixed feelings by: Ya-Marie Sesay Posted: Apr 18, 2025 / 07:06 PM EDT Updated: Apr 18, 2025 / 07:06 PM EDT SHARE FORT WASHINGTON, Md. (DC News Now) — A Prince George’s County charter school may close next year due to budget cuts. Although the decision is not final yet, many parents have mixed feelings about the recommendation. A letter sent to families at Excel Academy Public Charter School in Fort Washington said that PGCPS has provided a notice of “recommendation of non-renewal” due to financial viability. They expect the 2025-2026 school year to be the last school year the school will be open. This comes as the school system is facing a more than $30 million deficit due to state and federal budget cuts. https://www.dcnewsnow.com/news/local-news/maryland/prince-georges-county/pgcps-recommendation-to-close-charter-school-leaves-parents-with-mixed-feelings/?fbclid=IwY2xjawJyIfxleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHiRTAMpL247TqGFU5qPlvIe3qgvzy5nsmLexkXlxrfQKh5tvB7zIq64QL0tR_aem_uqIzNTBwdfGg1GLUJIKOrw |

With the exception of CMIT and College Park Academy, the charter schools in PG are underwhelming.
I wouldn't be surprised if there were more closures in the next couple of years. |
Agreed. |
