| Does your child go to a school that participates in the foreign language in elementary school program? Do you like the program? Does your child? Can you tell me some of the advantages you have seen in this program? Disadvantages? |

| I have two kids (ages 7 & 9) in a Spanish FLES elementary school in FFX. I think it's great! It's really not very intrusive - only a small portion of the day is spent on it -- but the school also tries to incorporate Spanish in other areas. For instance, there are signs everywhere with Spanish labels -- and there is a part of the morning annoucements dedicated to Spanish, etc. Honestly, my kids are somewhat indifferent about it-- it's just what they have always had and expect. They don't know a whole lot of Spanish, but I introduced my 7 year old to someone the other day who speaks Spanish and he actually said something in Spanish to her - -which I was surprised by. I like the program. |

| We have Chinese FLES at our school. It's definitely not immersion and we've lived overseas so I have realistic expectations about these things. I expected my child to lear a few basic things in Chinese last year and that's what she learned. It's such a small amount, but it is exposure, which I happen to think is important. I like the exposure to other languages and other cultures. FLES gives a bit of that. Realistically, your child won't speak that much of the language with the small amount of time they spend on it. if you really want your child to speak the language, immersion is the way to go -- of course, that also has downsides. |

| OP here, if FLES has provided only a little exposure has anyone tried the FLEX program for more exposure? Did you like FLEX? |

| I don't think there's a "FLES" program. It's called "FLEX". |

| There is a FLES program. It's Foreign Language in Elementary School. It's part of the school day. Isn't FLEX the PTA one offered before school? |
