There were 2 dead bodies found in the City of Alexandria overnight. They seem to be unrelated. One was found around the 700 block of N. Pitt Street. The other shot twice and dumped at 22 Block of Canterbury Square.
I've lived in the city for decades and the amount of crime that's happening here now is alarming. I think it's time residents come together and bring back the neighborhood watch program that we had here in the 80's and 90's. Things seems to be getting out of control now. Any one here a resident of the city has any ideas please post them. https://www.alxnow.com/2025/04/20/breaking-man-killed-in-saturday-night-shooting-near-holmes-run/ https://www.alxnow.com/2025/04/20/alexandria-police-investigating-after-man-found-dead-in-roadway-in-old-town-north/ https://x.com/alexandriavapd/ |
| I think the residents should come together and elect a city council that supports police and stops using taxpayer money for low income housing. |
I couldn't agree more. However the people with any sense are moving out of the city. Thus only leaving the low income voters they moved in in droves with all the county housing they've "installed." |
| The Pitt St one is believed to be a suicide, fyi. |
Source? |
According to an APD spokesperson, “this appears to be suicide at this early stage of the investigation”. https://www.alxnow.com/2025/04/20/alexandria-police-investigating-after-man-found-dead-in-roadway-in-old-town-north/ |
The above is also in OP's link, which you apparently didn't read. |
In the middle of the road? |
Where should low income people live? |
Uh, yes? Sometimes people don't collapse right away or at the exact location of the self harm's first moment. You don't know this? |
| Abysmal news from an abysmal city! |
Dale City, Woodbridge, Sterling. |
Alexandria has the highest % of super low income households in comparison to all of the other county’s in NOVA. 13% of Alexandria households have an AMI under 30% of the Washington DC metro area. |
I’d prefer Silver Spring. That place has turned into an armpit and wouldn’t notice the additional poverty or crime. Both of these incidents happened by section 8 housing. |
| Those apartments by Holmes Run, north of Duke and east of Van Dorn, have insane crime. I had a friend who lived in one of them from 2020-22 and he was desperate to get out. Said the crime was so bad, management did NOT care and police barely ever responded. |
