I’ve heard crew, track and field, and ultimate frisbee are no cut. Maybe swimming? Are there any others? |
Ive heard track is no longer no-cut, team got too big |
Swimming is no cut. Crew is only no cut for freshman and sophomores. |
Are there intramural or after school sports just for fun? |
Rifle, Swim/dive, cross country, football, wrestling, ultimate frisbee, dance (poms), cheerleading, tennis. Not sure if lacrosse has cuts. There are far more no cut sports at W-L than at Yorktown.
Ice Hockey might be no cut but that sport is not sponsored by the school, although the school typically celebrates the team’s successful seasons. |
Cheerleading has cuts, not usually for freshmen. As big as WL is getting each year, I’d assume cuts will start happening for other sports. |
W-L had a robust intramural program 10 years ago. Not sure about now. Rec league sports are also popular, like Arlington’s “House League Basketball” program; teams are often organized around schools/friend groups. |
We are interested in sports that happen after school, as a way to build in daily fitness and teamwork. Tennis is no cut? I thought at middle school it was cut, but then HS it opens up? |
I believe golf is also no cut. While there have been good tennis and golf teams over the years—the current golf team is one of the best in the state—some sports just don’t generate as much interest as others like baseball for example. |
Cross country is no cut. Also, W-L tryouts are unpredictable. Several years ago, there weren't many boys at freshman basketball tryouts, last year there were lots. Same with volleyball. Some years there are more than others. I think some kids get scared off from trying out, then the numbers are low. |
Just wanted to respond that both boys and girls lacrosse teams generally have cuts. I'd say that if a kid has a couple of seasons of rec, though, I believe they can generally make JV (boys and girls). Cross country is no cut and has a great team culture. If your kid wants to do that, they should try to get some running in before the season starts just so they aren't miserable for the first couple of weeks. Note that all of the fall sports start in early August. |
I have a boy and girl at WL- lax teams def have cuts for both. As does football. |
I think freshman football is no cut. |
