Athens Trip Review

I was the previous poster who wanted ideas for 4 days in Athens. 4 was a perfect amount, in fact we could have used 1 more day.

What to consider: try staying close to a metro stop. Made our stay so easy that we could quickly head underground and move around on the cheap.

Day trip to the islands: we went to Angistri for 1 day. Stunning gem of an island 60 minutes away by high speed ferry.

Day trip to Poseidons Temple. Dare we say we loved it more than the Acropolis? No scaffolding, fewer crowds, background views are stunning.

April was perfection: it was 27c the day we visited the Acropolis (nearly too hot) and 24c the other days. Can NOT imagine how dreadful it must be in summer.

Crowds were very manageable and even with their Easter coinciding with our break things were open - perhaps shorter hours and everything shut Easter Sunday when we will leave.

Thanks! What did you do in Athens itself?

I mean, you spent two days in Athens itself it sounds like which is what several of us recommended. A lot of people head to the islands but not necessarily as part of their “Athens” stay.
Glad you had fun! I loved Athens.

In Athens we did
-acropolis and agora (as expected)
-walk up Philapoppas hill (amazing view of Acropolis)
-Olympic Stadium (loved it)
-Syntagma Square
-walk and shop through Monasteriki
-antique shopping (the best I have seen in years)
-rooftop restaurant Kuzina

Would have done 2 museums had we stayed longer
-cat cafe (kids choice)

We just returned from spring break in Greece. Absolutely loved Athens. So glad we stayed on the backside of the Acropolis in a more residential neighborhood. We debated getting to Poseidon. Sounds like it was really worth the trip!

We had two full days to see agora, Acropolis, and the Acropolis Museum and the archaeological museum. We had an unexpected third day due to the strikes and at the advice of our Greek friends, we didn’t go into the center on that day, instead walking around the nearby hills (Mars, Philloppos) for more Acropolis views. We also stopped to view the Stavros center, which had a great playground for DC.

The only thing I did not like was the Plaka or Monastiraki areas—clogged tourist lanes with one shop after another offering the same wares (though nearby Pssyri was nice for strolling).

So 4 days wasn’t perfect.
