Ok maybe not by real estate values/cost of living, but the vibes are still the 1990s
Walked to a neighborhood bakery, everyone is chatty, no one really on phones (except me), on my walk to the bakery , randoms walking their dogs in flannel saying hello/good morning, the neighborhood bakery playing sublime and smash mouth , everyone is dressed like back in the 90… |

Or maybe the '90s just had Portland vibes—whether Maine or Oregon. "The Dream of the 90s is alive in Portland!"

| That place gives me the creeps for some reason. |
OP is right and this is (chefs kiss) |
Same! Also, ever been to Bangor? It’s worse. I used to have to visit both quite often and both places are unsettling. The people are uncanny. |
Could you two be any vaguer? |
| Portland is very smug. Junkies passed out in parking garage stairwells, homeless encampments, drug markets in Longfellow Square with accompanying psychosis fueled rants at passersby against a backdrop of dated 2020 era virtue signaling galore (BLM, mask up, welcome New Mainers, planned parenthood signs in every Congress street storefront) |
| The massive current day drug and homelessness problem wasn’t even as large of an issue back in 2020. I do miss old Portland. |
| Portland Maine has a drug problem??? |
It’s not as bad as Portland Oregon I feel more 90s vibes in Portland Maine Portland Oregon otoh is too dystopian today |
Big time. |

VHS store right by the art museum - truly the 1990s!
So many people smoking old fashion cigarettes- barely any vaping |
| I love Portland Maine! What’s wrong with people not being glued to their phones and being friendly? |
| I thought all of Maine was a bit strange. It makes sense that Stephen King lives in Maine and has more than enough material to last his entire lifetime. |
Brooooo that's totally radical! Not bogus like shawwww n all you know? It's like when that gnarly wave is like all yeahhh and it just feels right man and whoa! Sorry, flashback. |
