Changes to the US Flag Code

Anonymous
I had the thought today that the Pledge of Allegiance really needs to be altered.

Instead of flag, school children and public officials should be encouraged to pledge allegiance to the Constitution.

Although this change would be symbolic only, I truly believe it would be important symbolism.

So I looked up the history of the Pledge, which led me to the US Flag Code.

Title 4, United States Code, Chapter 1

https://www.legion.org/advocacy/flag-advocacy/flag-code

And on further reading, I saw this information, which was 100% news to me:

§ 10. Modification of rules and customs by President

Any rule or custom pertaining to the display of the flag of the United States of America, set forth herein, may be altered, modified, or repealed, or additional rules with respect thereto may be prescribed, by the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States, whenever he deems it to be appropriate or desirable; and any such alteration or additional rule shall be set forth in a proclamation.

This needs to be changed immediately. I guarantee that the only reason Trump hasn't attempted to modify the appearance of the flag, or customs surrounding its display, is because he wasn't aware he could do so.

I would not put it past him to insist that the flag display a golden silhouettee of his face.

Preventative action needs to happen now.

It should go without saying, but it needs to be said: The US Flag shall never be displayed alongside any individual or corporate flag. It shall only be displayed above state or national flags.

I would not put it past Trump to develop his own presidential flag, and insist we fly it alongside the US flag.

"This needs to be changed immediately."

According to that same code, it’s inappropriate to use the flag to make clothing or apparel. Someone needs to tell Pete Hegseth that his American flag hankie is in violation.

But it's okay to walk on it and burn it??

NP, I think it's all stupid. The flag is a symbol. Do you worship or pledge allegiance to the symbol, or the actual values?

I don't give a sh!t about the US flag. Use it for toilet paper, for all I care. But I do give a damn about the constitution.

That's related to Trump's demand that the Flag not be flown at half-mast for Jimmy Carter.

No you don’t. You care about keeping the parts that suit you, and you care about changing the parts you don’t like.

At least be honest. Because we all know what you mean.

Yes. In fact, there shouldn’t be a Flag Code at all.

I think we have more important things to worry about than an obscure flag code.

Boomers (I'm one) grew up knowing it. Most of us were in scouting, where we learned it and learned to do flag ceremonies.
Could get rid of "under God" of course. Putting the constitution in there?---sovereign citizens and extreme rw-ers already carry a copy in their shirt pocket and a lot of the rest don't care anyway.

The Constitution isn't the Bible. It is the framework for laws.

The other laws are just as important.

The current pledge is allegiance to:

The flag (bad)
The Republic (good)
One nation (debatable)
Under God (blatantly violates the Constitution)
Liberty (good)
Justice (good)

The Flag Code is critical. It provides a language of patriotism.

Without a flag code, the flag loses its meaning. The Flag code is a reference for interpreting flag related behavior.

Burning a flag is an act of protest and a celebration of freedom for tyranny.

A member of government wearing a crumpled flag as a clothing is a statement that you believe Americans are idiots.

There are no legal penalties for violating flag code.

Keep that in mind: Pete Hegseth uses the American flag as a snot rag.

Depends which flag you’re burning. If you light up a BLM or Pride flag as a protest, you’ll quickly discover that tyranny is alive and well, and will relentlessly come looking for you.
