We are such hypocrites - The US has been holding people without trial in indefinite detention for over 20 years

I really don't understand why there is so much publicity about how El Salvador is such a barbaric place that has terrorist prisons when the United States still has Guantanamo Bay open. Have people forgotten the US has been holding people who we tortured (except we called it enhanced interrogation) WITHOUT A TRIAL in indefinite deletion for over TWENTY YEARS?

So after 9/11 we decided we could incarcerate terrorists indefinitely without a trial. El Salvador reacts to being the murder capital of the world so classifies gang members as terrorists and imprisons them (many without trial or mass trials) for sentences of over 20 years.

The terrorists who planned and participated in the killing of innocent victims who did nothing wrong, went to work, and were basically blown to ashes? I'm confused...you're feeling bad for the terrorists who are incarcerated or for their victims?

Aa horrific as those crimes were, I can’t help but feel a little astounded that you seem to think we haven’t committed similar acts in other countries over the years. News flash, we’ve done some really reprehensible things under the banner of democracy.

Things that have caused the killing of thousands of innocent people? Yes.

Things that would be even more difficult to justify than 9/11? Yes.

A lot of us have a problem with Guantanamo Bay! Anytime people are held indefinitely without due process there is huge potential for abuse. It is wrong and I am not ok with it.

That said, this context is completely different. There is no terrorism here whatsoever. We do not need to question any of these men, nor does Trump even pretend that he has any intention to do so. What would they even ask them???

Trump, Kristi Noem, Marco Rubio and others are rounding up people who are in the United States legally and have never even been accused of any crime!

Trump, Kristi Noem, Marco Rubio and others are defying federal judges and making a mockery of the Supreme Court to do so.

There is no reason for Jerce Reyes Barrios or Andry Jose Hernandez Romero, to name just two, to be sent to prison. They have never been suspected of a crime much less convicted.

Both situations are bad. Both are wrong. The end never justifies the means. But there is a clear difference.

Yes. We are hypocrites.

I'm pretty sure the U.S. gov't isn't pushing for the release of prisoners in CECOT, nor in Guantanamo. So, no hypocrisy detected.

It's not hypocritical. They with terrible. They both got huge protest. We can't control the "deep state" of elected officials who ignore human decency.

Trump will come after everyone.

This El Salvador is a line in the sand.

No it's not the same

And face it, you don't care about Guantanamo either. You just needed to post a distraction
