I haven’t been able to find Good Culture plain lowfat cottage cheese at Giant or Whole Foods for weeks. Any leads?
PSA- Whole Foods 365 brand 1.5% cottage cheese is awful - curds are too large and liquid is almost - bubbly. |
| Wegmans |
|
It sells out quickly as it gains popularity.
The best price is usually Target, but I know we aren’t shopping there. The only respectable alternative is Hood. |
| Yes. Why? And even Wegman's too. |
I haven’t seen it at Target in weeks. |
| Yes it’s hard to find but if you can find friendship 1% WHIPPED cream cheese, it’s even better. I hate a runny/loose cream cheese so this and good culture are the only two that have a drier, saltier texture that I love. |
| Friendship 4 or 6% is not terrible. I prefer good culture too - it's the driest and saltiest for me. |
| oh I love large curds but I don't shop at whole foods. I guess I'll have to learn to make my own like little miss muffet. |
I guess I can look it up, but is it easy to make it? I'm in constant search of NOT SALTED cottage cheese. Most of them are loaded with so much salt, what gives? Lucerne Safeway brand, not salted is my favorite if I can find it. European markets sell tvorog which is a similar product, just a bit different consistency: smaller curds, less moisture. |
| I like Breakstones- small curds, not too wet. But Good Culture is a lot more protein per serving. |
Same here! I don’t want salty cottage cheese. They all have so much sodium. I like cottage cheese with fruit. I can find non salty anywhere. |
| Seems easy enough. I make my own paneer which seems way harder than this: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/254658/cottage-cheese/ |
Anyone tried making it without the cheesecloth, just a tiny holed colander? |
Best no salt added cottage cheese is the Giant brand. Availability varies by Giant store, though, as I haven't found it at every Giant in my NoVa area. |
| I like the Lactaid brand. It only comes in 4% |
