I wear small diamond studs every day, even in the shower. Mine are 20 years old, but if I was buying today, I’d buy lab grown diamond studs. Of all places where no one would know the difference, your ears would be it- my hair is always half covering them.

What size is appropriate for everyday wear? Do you have a recommendation for where to buy?

I wear these gold flower studs most days as a default.
They look great with everything and weigh nothing. I shower and sleep in them.

I have worn a pair of diamond huggie hoops for nearly 20 years- I find them more comfortable to sleep in than studs.

I got mine at Boone & Sons in Chevy Chase. In my experience they are helpful and don’t try to oversell.

But, diamond studs look the same whether you get them at Tiffanys, Blue Nile or wherever!

For size, mine are 0.5 carat per ear - perfect for me (I wear to work, to workout, to sleep, to shower, etc), but others might want larger depending on personal taste and head/body size. Go into any mall jewelry store and try on a few pairs - you’ll quickly figure out what size os right for you.

For lab grown, I’d look at Blue Nile (they sell mined and lab grown diamonds).

I wear opals and moonstones most often. I’m pale and I don’t wear makeup often, and those are what works best for me. They’re just round in yellow gold, which I need for skin sensitivity.

Do you sleep and shower with opal earrings in? Opals are notorious for being fragile and damaged by water.

Oh no, sorry. I can’t stand to sleep or shower in any earrings.

Do any studs have screw on backs? I lose them a lot, fortunately not expensive ones.

I’m the pp who wears diamond studs daily, and they have screw on backs.

I wear diamond studs 1 ct in each ear, martini platinum setting. I almost never change them to something else. My engagement and weddings rings are white gold, which sometimes makes my finger break out in a rash. I have not had any issues with the platinum in my earrings.
