Trump: "looking into" sending US citizens to El Salvador prison

Anonymous
I'm listening live to Trump's press conference with Bukele (president of El Salvador) in the WH today. When asked whether he'd consider sending US prisoners who are US citizens to the prison in El Salvador, he answered in the affirmative and said they were "looking into it." He seems to include US-born citizens because he used the word "home grown." He mentioned how much cheaper it would be to house US criminals in El Salvador and how much money they could save. Any lawyers care to weigh in on the legality of this?

Oh, and neither he nor Bukele are budging on returning the Maryland man who the SC weighed in on recently.

He said a lot of other unfiltered, bat-shit, and mendacious stuff which will make its way onto the news and social media soon. Buckle up.

Oh, suddenly we're all against outsourcing. It would be a lot cheaper to house them there.

If the President of El Salvador will not send him here, we can not make him. We have no authority.

Thanks for doing this work. I am not able to listen.

There are roughly 1 million in state prisons, 560,000 in state jails, and 203,000 in federal prisons. In that last category, approximately 11,000 in the Bureau of Prisons are there for violent offenses (homicide, robbery, sexual assault, other). The vast majority are in for drugs.

How is this going to work? Are states going to join with him and send their prisoners to El Salvador?

This is horrible.

Oh please please please. If this was my Hollywood movie, Trump would end up in an El Salvadoran prison as a "home grown" felon. Roll credits.

Where they get no civil rights protections guaranteed by the Constitution? You good with that?

So Trump is now weaker than the president of El Salvador? And at the same time, he seems to think he can take over Greenland and Panama? And in the same breath, he’s bragging about his tariffs, causing leaders of all countries to come growling at their knees and negotiate with him? But no, there’s nothing he could possibly do to retrieve one person from El Salvador. He’s never heard of prisoner, exchanges or diplomacy or any of the hundreds of tools. Our government has to achieve this not so difficult task. How weak is Trump?

Did you hear the President of El Salvador’s reasons? Of course we can make him turn over the Maryland man.

I cannot believe this is real life and not a horror movie.

Isn't El Salvador dealing with excessive debt due to their excessive imprisonment? This is insane and stupid and so are you if you support this.

We could very easily withold payment. Remember that we are paying El Salvador to incarcerate him.

Only if it includes his sons and Stephen Miller in a cell together like the end of Seinfeld.
