Question about traffic on Friday from Richmond to DC

Anonymous
How is traffic on 95 from Richmond to DC on Friday afternoon/evening? Is it horrible? If so, is there a particular time of day when the traffic lets up?

Thanks

What time of year? It’s bad any week but way worse Memorial Day to Labor Day or right before any sort of holiday. If it’s none of those you can leave about 8pm and it’s not too bad. On one of the above you’d probably want to wait until 10pm.

Hi, PP, thanks for responding. I was talking about this Friday. This is very helpful-- thank you for confirming what I suspected!

It’s a crapshoot. Since you’re going Richmond to DC it “should” be against traffic that time of day. Traffic is usually worse once you get north of Fredericksburg. The later the better, maybe.

Expect the worst and be happy if you get anything better.

This Friday Will be bad because it is Good Friday and people will be traveling for Easter. Either leave super early in the day or leave after dark.

It will take 3.5 hours unless you leave very early in the morning, like 6 or 7 am.

Take the train if you can.
