I fly from DC tp NY every other week for work. Stay 1-2 nights. Is anyone else changing flights out of DCA? I’m thinking of flying out of Dulles for now. |
Same. |
I’m avoiding DCA. In the last month when we twice had DCA travel it was a pain due to air traffic control issues. They stop flights when a “VIP” is flying nearby. One flight was diverted to BWI then flew back to DCA. |
I fly a fair amount. I'll prefer IAD over DCA when I can, but won't push hard for it. For example, if the only direct flight is to DCA, I'll do that instead of taking an option with a connection.
But last week I booked a flight to Toronto and I'll go in and out of IAD instead of DCA by choice. |
Take the train |
I dislike Dulles enough that I am still flying out of DCA when I have a choice. I have not had delay problems flying into DCA since the crash and fly every week or two.
OP in your situation I'd take the train rather than go to Dulles, but it depends where you live and what time you are flying. Security lines at Dulles can be very long in the early morning, including precheck and clear. |
100% avoiding DCA until they get their s$*t together. |
This. Flying into NYC is a major pain too. |
Where do you live? I am still picking DCA over Dulles any day since I live a few miles from there. Going to Dulles would add at least an hour to the trip. |
Yes I live closer to dca but prefer dulles now. I dont trust dca. |
I prefer IAD at least until DCA always has a fully staffed set of air traffic controllers. That likely will take years. |
Depends on where you live. I prefer BWI over Dulles and DCA even though I’m closer to DCa.
If it were me I would Acela to NYC with all the pain of getting to and from airports on both ends. |
Just avoid regional jets. Normal jets can’t land on runway 33 anyway, and that runway is the issue. DCA is so much quicker in and out. |
Not true in any way. Regular narrow bodies can land on 15/33 as long as it's dry. Not optimal, but they can do it. https://www.airliners.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=586405 The crash in January, from is known so far, had everything to do with the helicopter traffic near the airport, not the runway configuration. |
I am avoiding DCA.
Mild PITA to find flights at other airports. Big PITA to not be able to fly direct to visit my parents anymore. But I'm pretty firm on this after the reports confirmed legitimate safety issues. |
