| I figured I’d ask DCUM because there’s probably more lawyers here than at the bar. My grandmother hired someone to install new gutters. They took $5k from her and installed garbage. It also turns out they are not a real business and are basically insolvent/judgement proof. I’ve found out they have been arrested numerous times for burglary, the last of which was in 2015. They are still posting to places like Nextdoor and Facebook that they install gutters. To get back at them I’d like to buy a billboard that just has their mugshots on it. Is this harassment? I’m more than happy to do this and waste my money because taking them to small claims court is even more of a waste as they own nothing and cash checks at a check cashing place so there’s no bank account. |

It's more effective if you get their posts removed or put reviews in a lot of places talking about the theft.
Also try reporting them to the police. |
The police said it was a civil issue. Small claims court is what makes sense but they have no money or assets. Nextdoor and Facebook won’t take down posts. |
| They are already lowlife criminals. Don't antagonize them. $5k isn't worth your life or peace |
| Legalities aside I doubt that people looking at his ads would connect them to his face on the billboard. Seems like a waste of time and OTT. |
| You might call ICE if that's a possibility here. |
If it’s civil, cops refuse to make a report? |
Honestly I’m petty and it will only cost me $1k. He will 100% see it and I hope he leaves town. |
They told me they won’t a report. |
I think they didn’t feel like it. You’re supposed to report crime, and get a copy of it. What city? |
If FB and Nextdoor won’t take down their posts, are they going to take down yours telling people that they’re criminals and scammers? Because I’d take a few minutes each day for a while to follow them around saying just that. The billboard thing is tempting, I know, but ultimately won’t stop the next grandma from getting scammed. |
Dc proper. I walked into the station with her and because work was finished they said it’s a civil issue. The gutters have already fallen off the house and I’m paying a licensed gutter company to redo it. |
I’d be so pissed. |
| If you find it’s legal to do this, rent a mobile billboard truck and have driven around their business. Better yet, if you know where they live, have the mobile billboard truck drive around their neighborhood after-work and on weekends. Maybe even hit the schools when they let out. |
I like it. As long as it’s not considered harassment I’m going to do this. |
