Are you happy with your range hood? Any features/look outs?

Getting a range hood installed (vented) to the outside. We currently have all Bosch appliances.

Should I go with Bosch? If so, which one? It's going smack dab between a couple cabinets already and some cabinets will be removed (not many) for the install.

Working with a GC to do the ductwork/install but it's on me to choose the hood.

Thoughts?

We have been happy with our Vent-A-Hood.

Are you building a surround for it?

I got a painted wood hood that is very plain. I would not want metal finish or brand name

Are you referring to the insert or the hood itself? I have a zephyr insert and love it - baffles are easy to wash and it’s strong. I would do either zephyr or vent-a-hood if you concern is performance.

Make sure it has super duper suction power.

I have a Wolf continuously variable speed hood, which is extremely powerful. It requires a servo-operated make-up air intake which opens a vent across the room in the ceiling when the hood operates. That prevents the creation of negative pressure in the space from the air exhausting through the hood. The hood also has integrated lighting, which is helpful for illuminating the cooktop below. Illumination, variable fan speed, installation with a make-up air intake, and high power are all useful features.

Baffles and vented to the outside, but what you want most is the maximum cfs you can have with the lowest decibel rating.

Get the proper cfm needed for the stove you’ll be putting in. If your cfm is higher, you’ll need that makeup air intake that PP mentioned. If you’re getting permits, permit office will check this.

I like the swivel lights on our hood. They’re towards the back of the hood, which we like, and it’s nice to be able to point them where you need light. I also like that our baffles can go in dishwasher.

Proper cfm for our stove/range is key. Your stove/range will spec the minimum cfm required.
E.g. if you have a Viking cooktop, it puts out a lot of heat and with that, a lot of cooking grease. The recommended minimum cfm for that is 600 for a 4 burner Viking. Most fan hoods are 400cfm and that combination would leave your house with a lot of greasy air.

This site has some nice hoods. And you can buy coordinating vent inserts.
