What phones do your teens have?

My 13yo DS wants the iPhone 16 even though he has the 13. I told him no, but he said most kids at school have the newer models. I don't believe that to be true though, what phone models do your kids have?

Samsung galaxy J3, It's not active so it only works on wifi but my kid rarely uses it anyway.

iPhone 16 because we got her a phone when she turned 13 and there was a deal at Verizon (our carrier) that you got a 16 and 16 only if you opened a new line. So that's how she ended up with a 16. We didn't want to give her one, in fact the SE was recommended as the best for a teen but you can no longer buy those. A free 16 is still cheaper than a used older phone.

Who cares? If he wants an upgrade from a perfectly serviceable phone, he can pay for it.

I think my ds has a 14. My 11 year old asked for a 15 when he gets one in a few months. I have a 15.

My turning 16 DD still does not have one and we do not plan to get her one soon either.

All three of mine (ages 14-17) have older models- like 2nd generation SE or iPhone 11. Not even totally sure but they are all old. They aren’t super thrilled about this.

My kids also tell me that most kids have school have much newer models. Whether that is true I am not sure, but the argument doesn’t work with me lol. UMC suburb if that matters.

I too will be curious to see the responses.

Finally, a voice of reason. 16 DD here, still no phone. We have a household cell phone, or her friends can call me or my wife.

I wanted to wait for my 14yo but she felt embarrassed when everyone in class was on there's 24/7 and how the teachers or other students never seen her have one but use her computer.

Wow that's so rigid - her friends can call you? Yikes...

Ha ha ha.

I have an iPhone 12 mini.
My 19 year old has my old iPhone 8 (he's getting a new one for his upcoming birthday).
My 14 year old has my old iPhone 6.

The 6 can only do call and text. The 8 still has some apps that are compatible, but not his banking app, which is why he's getting a new phone. My 12 mini is great and I'm not changing it any time soon.

I would laugh in your child's face, OP. No one in this family gets new stuff just to keep up with the Joneses'. We have plenty of money, but we're discreet about it.

Yes, remember the 90s when you called a friend's house and *gasp* might have to talk to their dad for 10 seconds before he put your friend on? Yeah, it's like that.

Or, like I said, they can use the household cell phone, my wife's phone. Spare me the sanctimony.
