Housing Options for Summer Internship in South San Francisco (Near SFO)

Anonymous
Hi all. I’m a DCUM parent from the DC area and my college student asked me to tap this line to see if you all have any suggestions for summer housing in or near (accessible via public transit) South San Francisco (like near the airport). Any suggestions for where to look, areas to avoid, or how to approach would be appreciated.

Near the San Bruno mall. I bet they have corporate housing near there and it's walking distance to Bart.

Stay away from Hunters Point. San Bruno is the cheapest area near SF, though now SB is even expensive. It has the worst weather. Chilly even in the summer. And lots of hills.

Is there a college nearby. My kids have been able to live in dorms/campus apartments for summer internships

That's ... not South SF.

Will aim to avoid hunters point and will check out San Bruno. Anything with easy BART access is fine. Much appreciated!

It's just north of SSF. I used to work in SSF, and my s/o had an apt in SF. I also lived in Burlingame. I know that area fairly well.

If Op's DC is looking for anywhere around SSF, Hunters Point would be included in that radius, also because it tends to be cheaper in HP. If they don't know the area, they might see the cheaper rent prices and decide on that area. That's why I was warning OP.

This. Here are a couple resources from colleges in the city:

You could also look at Daly City, but there is no rapid transit to SSF.

My DC has an internship in TX this summer. They fond a group of other interns, and they are going to rent an airbnb for the summer.

Helpful, thanks. We haven’t done much with Airbnb. Any potential pitfalls to look out for, if going in that direction?

Yes, Tanforan is the SB mall I was thinking of. Across the street from it is a huge apartment complex.

Away from the needles.
