R1S vs X5 50e

Anyone cross shop these two? Where did you land?

Neither, we went with an X7 40i

In terms of what we cross-shopped:

R1S - too many horror stories of basket case cars and service centers being booked 1+ month out. No loaners either. Rivian is also still in the red so not sure I'd want to spend 80-100k on a car that might not have manufacturer support in 5-10 years. Also audio system sucks and no carplay which is surprisingly annoying.

Range Rover - many reports of "drivetrain issue, service center" error messages on both I6 and V8 models, 3rd row has an issue with incessant beeping because the seat frame doesn't lock. Every JLR part is backordered with no ETA because of "COVID". Dealers don't do loaners.

X5 50e - Rough start for this model since release. It seems BMW has identified systemic problems they're keeping quiet about and just reducing shipments to dealers because there's only 20 X5 PHEVs in a 500 mile of 20003 (compared to 400+ with the I6). A TON of people have reported teething issues:

EX90 - terrible software gremlins and too low to the ground for my taste

Thanks for this! How has the X7 been? I was really looking for a PHEV, which is what was driving me toward the X5.

Thanks! How do you like the X7? I was really keen on a PHEV which led to the X5.

Really happy with the X7. DW and I are not really "BMW people" but we agreed it was the best option.

If you're set on PHEV you could look at the XC90 T8 too.
