Thoughts on Herndon Youth Soccer Girls Travel for 2025-26?

I need help on deciding if I should allow my kid to play for HYS. What are your thoughts on the coaches/TD? ANY and ALL info would be helpful.

What age? Who will be the coach?

Coaching slate will be announced today. They only have a few girls teams currently but are now in ECNL-RL so might attract some talent. They’ve brought in some good people recently to mange the admin side of the club, seems more organized. Boys side has always been fairly strong.

Here’s a link to their current teams, they play in NCSL.

Absolutely do NOT play for Herndon if you have a girl.

The TD never has and never will prioritize girls development. He only cares about the top teams on the boys side. And everytime someone is hired to focus on the girls program, they quickly come into conflict with the TD and then disappear. This has been going on for years. While many coaches on the boys side have been there for a long time, there is a revolving door for coaches and leaders on the girls side.

And Herndon girls playing in ECNL-R next year is not a good thing. The Herndon girls played in ECNL-R until 2 years ago when they got kicked out. Herndon Girls will take any player that shows interest in their travel teams even if they have never played before. They got hammered every game and it was clear that they didn't belong in ECNL-R.

They may have someone new saying the right things to attract girls to the club but it won't last.

I value all opinions, but is this from personal experience or what you’ve heard?

She's a 2009? Or a 2015?

Personal. Have had sons and daughter go through HYS and its crazy the disparity in treatment between both sides of the program.

Would not touch it for girls. They have to create girls' teams for ECNL-RL, but I'd be very worried about how competitive they will be. I also wonder who the actual coaches will be, because there is no chance people are going to really be coaching 4 teams.

They are still looking for coaches obviously. Nick Arzani is scheduled for 4 teams, a bunch of other coaches are down for 3 teams, I think it won't be sorted out and you won't know who your kid's coach will be on the girl's side until its too late to switch.

their social media intern, a college kid, is assigned three different ecnl teams.

in the valor thread. someone said there's a new guy on the boys side assigned multiple teams who either quit or was fired halfway through the season last year
