Mom-Daugther weekend in NYC with 13-year-old - where to eat?

Anonymous
I am in NYC frequently for work but am looking for some fun restaurants popular with teens/tweens but not super touristy (like not interested in Ellen's Stardust Diner). Kid is an adventurous eater! Let me know any suggestions and TIA. We are staying in Midtown but will go anywhere.

Anywhere in Chinatown is going to be great for you. Grab some meals in the west village for fancy/ambiance and the east village or the lower east side for hip/cheap variety. There’s a ton or restaurants with buzz, but a lot of special places have been there forever. Check out Veselka’s, Mammoun’s Falafel by nyu (must eat in the park on a sunny day) and any slice shop. Bagels are also a must, obviously. Enjoy!

I know it’s touristy, but it’s also epic and could be just for dessert. You can make reservations.

West Village by all the shopping.. or K-Town super late at night would be fun, then go to the hmart supermarket to buy random Asian candy, lots of wild Asian dessert options over there too.

OP here - these are great, sold on Veselka - she loves schnitzel and that's on the menu and I love pierogi. Keep 'em coming, these are great!

Mama's Too pizza is really good, or Scarr's. Yes to Chinatown--Wo Hop and Hop Lee are both really good. Via Carota and Buvette are owned by the same people and both v good--you def need a reservation. If you like Thai, Soothr, Fish Cheeks, and Thai Villa are all excellent. Almost any well-known bagel place will be good.

If you're going to see a Broadway show, Sardi's might be fun. It been there for decades and used to be the place where the casts of shows used to wait for the reviews to come in. The food is fine, nothing great, but it's a NYC monument.

Agree with west village by all the shopping. My daughter and her friend liked Jacks Wife Freida a lot.

No. It was epic 25 years ago. Now it's just bad. I took my teens a few years ago and they hated it. The frozen hot chocolate was just ok (I used to love it!) and the food was terrible. New management, maybe? I don't know but I won't go back.
