JHU CTY Honors Geometry vs. Thinkwell Honors Geometry

Anonymous
Does anyone know what the differences are between CTY honors geometry and Thinkwell honors geometry? They appear to use the same instructor video lessons, but not sure what the distinctions may be and if both cover as much material or if there are any video lessons offered in CTY that are not on Thinkwell.

CTY offers a structured, instructor-led experience with additional support, assessments, and possibly enriched content, while Thinkwell is a self-paced, standalone course with automatic grading and no live interaction.

Unless you choose to get the optional tutor, right?

CTY runs more like a virtual classroom. So they’d still be different even with the tutor.

Got it - sounds like content is same though. Many thanks!

Any thoughts on how challenging the CTY Online Geometry Honors is? My daughter (8th grade currently) is thinking of doing it, but I'm worried it'll be too much for her. She is a strong math student, but doesn't want to be drowning in math lol

Find out if Thinkwell is accredited, if that matters to you. It might be important for the transcript, if you're doing a transcript for any reason.

You don't need courses from accredited providers in order to put them on a transcript.

Well of course not. You can write whatever you want on a transcript and believe me, I've seen some dumb things on there.

But if you do have a reason to want an accredited program, think before you pay for a course. For example, if you'd like a course to count for college credit, or as a college prerequisite, it may matter.
