Local (Oakton Elementary)vs Center (Sunrise Valley)

My 2nd grader got into level IV. Our base school is Oakton Elementary and center school Sunrise Valley. We're new to Virginia, FCPS and AAP. Would appreciate any feedback about how to think about our choices. We will go for the orientations, but what should one look out for in those?

What has been people's experience - Good or bad - with these schools and their AAP programs.

My kid is not in these schools, but we had preferred local/ base school. They didn't want to leave friends, and it helped in middle school to be with the same cohort.

We’re thinking about same thing - but Flint Hill Elementary vs. Sunrise Valley. We’re more inclined to local because they’ll stay with their friends all the way through the high school pyramid. Sunrise Valley goes to a different middle and high school, so they might have to part from friends/community. Both are great schools with strong programs, so no wrong choice!

Also - the boundary changes might affect the schools. Staying at your base school might minimize moving… maybe 🤷.

Well the flint hill section that goes to sunrise may be moving to Oakton elementary.
