Any thoughts on UMD honors college or NYU for a student wanting to study data science? DC is deciding between these two.
MD resident, African American, introvert but not shy, close family friends in Manhattan, wants an interdisciplinary experience and will likely minor in a social science (leaning towards economics). |
| Assuming $ is not an issue, NYU. You really can't beat the diversity of NYC. |

NYU is 8% black; UMD is 13% black
UMD honors college will provide an interdisciplinary experience. NYU is pricey. UMD for in state is a great deal. |
| UMD |
| Umd. NYU is only good if stern or tisch |
| NYU unless money is an problem . Otherwise UMD |
+1. NYU in other fields will not deliver superior connections/outcomes so the reason to go there would be if she is an “NYC or bust” type who has been dreaming of living there for her entire life. |
Wrong. NYU undergrad Econ in CAS is top 20. CAS has 7% acceptance rate. |
| I would do UMD if costs were equal. |
|
Social Data Sci (Econ track) at UMD all the way
NYU too impersonal compared to UMD Honors attention & opportunities I understand the pull of NYC though & GL |
| UMD for that major. Plus the honors dorms are the nicest I have seen. |
| NYU absolutely if cost is not a factor. Much better reputation and links to future employers. |
| My daughter chose stern over umd business. She did not get into their honors program. |

Cas <5% admit rate, NYU overall at 7% |
