IT Job search in DMV area now

With so much press on various RIFs/layoffs rom federal agencies, contracting companies and other organizations, wondering how are people doing in job searches and landing in new jobs now? Some of my friends have just started job search following a layoff recently. I'm afraid that I may be in the same boat very soon. Any helpful hints are great.

I work at Fannie Mae and am scared that I may lose my job. It’s hard to get a job in this market and when you are 50. The billionaires who are doing this to common people, have no idea what a common man goes through to put food on table for his family and get retirement savings to spend old age without financial worries. It’s a sad day for humanity.

I am a software developer, recently left fed it took me three weeks to find another job for a major DoD contractor. I do have a security clearance and a specific set of skills that is used a lot in government contracts along with some industry certifications.
