AAP appeal

My daughter is principal placed in 6th grade and we applied for AAP and she did not get in. Any advice for the appeal? The appeal is due May 1, and SOL is prob mid-May. Appeal decisions come end of May. Will they see the Math and Reading SOL scores before they make their decision? Is there principal placement for middle school?

There is no principal placement for middle school. But it is less important to be in AAP for middle school because of the honors options. So don’t stress.

I'm not understanding why appeal for upcoming 7th grade? She can likely still take algebra hon in MS? What am I missing?

1. I wouldn’t worry about it for middle school. I have a 7th grader in all honors and the AAP seems like just a tiny bit more in depth than honors. Math placement in middle school is independent of AAP, and there is no AAP past 8th grade.

2. At my 3rd grade son’s IEP meeting, I asked about the timing of SOLs for appeal purposes, in case we needed to appeal this year again. Basically, they would not be back in time. So 3rd grade SOLs would be used for application during his 4th grade year for 5th grade placement only. In your case, 6th grade SOLs would inform an application in 7th grade for 8th grade placement only -

don’t worry about it. If your kid is signed up for honors classes and the most appropriate math class for them, it’ll be fine!

You can request the SOL scores to include in your packet.

My daughter, Level III AAP but principal placed, is getting into a full-time AAP for middle school. So, it can be done.

Same with my daughter. Principal placed for 6th grade and accepted to full time for middle school.

I think posters above are talking about two different things. It seems only way to get into AAP for 7 is to apply and get in. Original poster said her child was principal placed for 6th, applied for 7 and did not get in.
