DC to NYC buses

Anonymous
How are the DC-NYC buses these days? Which companies are reliable?

I used to do this route a lot (back when Greyhound and another company were the only options!) but haven't looked in years.

Any tips on which sites to look at for a last minute Easter weekend trip? Train this late looks a little too pricey for a family of 4 with current economic uncertainty and we'd prefer not to drive.

They are fine. Depends a little where you are leaving from. From Bethesda I slightly prefer Vamoose but Tripper is perfectly fine

I'm interested in going from downtown DC or union station, Capitol Hill...

Took the Flix and Peter Pan buses a few weeks back. For less than $55 round trip they were great!

I booked Peter Pan through mega bus, btw, as I believe it may cost less that way.

Best Bus from Vienna metro - usually 4 to 4.5 hours - very efficient and leaves right on time. $70 round trip, I think.

Peter Pan from Union Station is probably your best bet.

I take Flix. Some issues with my most recent trip. ( Some sort of glitch with computer system,so my bus was canceled and trip was rescheduled. Flix did reimburse what I paid and gave me a free trip.) You pay extra for assigned seats; at least you know you can get 4 seats together if you want.

It comes in right outside Moynihan Train Station in NYC--a plus IMO.

Flixbus.com is the website.

They bought the remaining Greyhound routes and assets a few years ago, are still operating some routes under the Greyhound brand

I have been happy with Vamoose Gold.

It depends on how far in advance you plan it - can be very inexpensive if you get them early but get more and more expensive as you get closer usually as the train fills up. They offer a student discount for certain ages plus I think kids under 13 are half price with any adult ticket.
