LT expansion

Can someone tell me what the next school year at LT looks like? Construction, more classes added, etc?

Thank you for any insight!

Following. Is the expansion supposed to be done by the fall? By 2026?

The expansion is supposed to be done by the Fall. So far it hasn’t been particularly disruptive, although the drilling could be felt in classrooms on a few days.

There are classes being added in 2nd & 5th grades next year, but not because of the expansion. 2nd is to accommodate a bubble year of students (1 1st grade class has 28 this year) and 5th has alternated having 2 & 3 classes depending on projected enrollment; the 4th grade is pretty big, so going back to 3 next year (same as every other grade, except now 2nd).

The expansion will be nice for office space and collaboration/small group space and 2 teachers should go from teaching in former offices to appropriately sized classrooms. LT is over 500 now and was like 150 smaller when the last renovation was done, so it’s mostly just about meeting existing demand until 8ish years from now when they get a real renovation.

Appreciate that info PP! I was hoping for more seats added to see if I had better chances with my WL number.

Lots of good info here: https://sites.google.com/dc.gov/dcps-facilities/additions-expansions/ludlow-taylor-es

The Community Kickoff Presentation on the bottom right has a good overview including maps, timelines, etc.

Community kickoff slideshow is actually completely wrong. For instance, says construction will be done before it even started. Originally had the wrong budget, though they apparently went back and corrected that but not the timeline. It’s also wrong about classroom specifications (it’s 2 K/1 and 2 3-5 not 4 of the former).
