IEE Provider Recommendations

Anonymous
Good afternoon, I was informed that my child may lose services because IEP team no longer think he is eligible because he is doing well in school. As background, part of the reason he came into service was bead social emotional delays that I believe still affects his ability to learn in school. These issues continue to exist especially at home, but he’s fairly well controlled at school.

Does anyone have any advice or recommendations for receiving an independent evaluation and whether I should seek out diagnosis? I suspect he has ADHD but he’s only 5 so I don’t know if he would be diagnosed at this age because he’s also just a young curious boy.

Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

You can reject the discontinuation of services and request an eval from the school.

I have. I requested a full evaluation and they are still saying that he’s doing well enough in school. But I believe that’s only because he’s receiving the services. If they discontinue I think he will have a difficult time.

Where are you located? You could probably benefit from legal advice to challenge this.

Dr. Daisy Pascualvaca did our IEE. We had to pay out of pocket but got reimbursed by FCPS.

In DCPS you can't.
I was railroaded into this for my DS when he was in 6th grade- only to have an IEP 2 years later.

I would get an advocate as opposed to getting an IEE.
They will observe your child in the classroom, sit with you in the meetings and translate / advocate.
Help you understand options.
Amy Mounce was one we met with (outside of WEG) - did not use as we decided to go private
We were not a fan of the consultant we met with at Weinfeld Education Group - not responsive to deadlines we had. If you do a search on DCUM WEG names will pop up.
I had book marked Monica Martinez (but did not use) https://www.martinezadvocacy.com/

I am sorry that I do not have better leads for you.
