We just got our decision but are now unsure if we want to leave the school for the Center. I am looking for the pros/cons of staying or leaving. Please come in. |
Got your letter from the AART or central committee? |
From AART packet we got there is acceptance. |
Can you elaborate? Are you saying the AART told you your child was accepted? |
The acceptance comes from central office via email, not from your packet sent to you by the AART. I am the parent of a third grader at the school, and I have never heard of the AART giving acceptances that way... so something may be off in your understanding. |
If it is helpful to anyone on this board, in past years, about 13-16 Shrevewood kids have been accepted during second grade, with several more accepted during third grade (kids who get Level III and then re-apply). Of the roughly 15 kids accepted in second grade, about 11-12 go to the Center, and 3-4 stay. The numbers were higher before Shrevewood changed its model with the current 4th grade class. Families seem happy at the Center but caution that the classroom behavior there is still not ideal in all instances. If you opt for the Center as a means of escaping discipline or behavior problems, perhaps keep it in mind that plenty of kids with behavior challenges are accepted into Level 4 AAP. Families who stay at Shrevewood also seem to think that the challenge level for high-achieving kids improves with access to advanced Math. Ultimately, you need to do what's best for your child, both academically and socially, and if you think the challenge will be greater at the Center, you should go to the open house and strongly consider that option. |
Parent of a 3rd grader who left - there are ZERO behavior issues in my child's class at the center school. I have heard the other 3rd grade class has 1-2 kids who can be tough. But it is night and day from othe crap my kid dealt with at Shrevewood. |
She would never!! |
I know two families at the center whose children are extremely unhappy because there are very poorly behaved children in their class that cause a lot of disruption and bullying. Now, are these families coming back to Shrevewood next year? No. So, take from that what you'd like. |
I’m a Shrevewood parent who has heard nothing bad about Lemon Road. I say go for it. |
Nothing is official until you get the email from central, probably tomorrow. Then, you can choose if you are staying or going. Go to both open houses and make your choice. We are at the center and could not be happier. |
Did anyone from Shrevewood actually get an acceptance email yet or is this person that started the thread just confused? |
IN!!! |
I am excited to go to the open houses and then decide! |
Talk to other parents at the orientations and see what their plans are. You don’t want your kid to be the only one staying… |
