The end of international law

Anonymous
The international legal system that was created after the end of World War II to protect us all has collapsed today. The international legal regime that includes the Geneva conventions, and prosecutions of war criminals, and was created to hold Nazis accountable for what they did to the Jews, officially ended today when Victor Orban rolled out the red carpet for a visit by Ben Netanyahu.

We should all be concerned because if our children go to war, all the rules of war are officially off the table. As a veteran, one of the first things you are taught in basic training used to be the Geneva Conventions. How to treat a prisoner of war, the difference between a combatant and a civilian, what constitutes a war crime. the requirement to ensure civilian infrastructure - like food and water supplies - is not targeted by the war.

The US, over the years, has spent millions documenting evidence and supporting prosecutions of war crimes, by Slobodan Milosevic in Yugoslavia, by Hutus in Rwanda, by ISIS in Iraq, by Bashir Assad in Syia, by Vladimir Putin in Ukraine.

When the Palestinians attacked Israel, and Israel responded by starving the Palestinian people and, their homes, schools and mosques, killing more than 15,000 children and filming the destruction, it was clear to all of us that work in international law that Israel was committing war crimes.

The Biden administration shamefully responded by doing nothing. They did not support documentation of the crimes as they do in other wars. When the International Criminal Court did their job and indicted Netanyahu, the Biden administration called the indictment outrageous, significantly weakening the international legal regime.

Now, by supporting Putin and Netanyahu, the Trump Administration has put the nail in the coffin. Hungary has officially pulled out of the International Criminal Court and others will follow.

Never again will a war criminal be prosecuted for their crimes against civilians or prisoners of war. The law that has protected us all during times of war since World War II is dead.

What Israel is doing, and what we're allowing them to do, is shameful.

I don't want to hear another word about "the hostages" - you think Netanyahu ever cared one iota about the hostages? They're nothing more than a cheap pawn to support his plans he had for LONG before October 7th.

Correct. To be able to live peacefully and rid Gaza of Hamas. Sounds like a good plan. Now the Palestinians need to keep doing what they finally started last week and rid themselves of Hamas.

By completely going so far over the top in reaction to the attack by Hamas, Israel made clear they have no regard for international law. Gaza is flattened.

Israel will build condos. The Palestinians need to be advocating to be resettled someplace - otherwise they will all be killed. That is the reality.

As a result of their own actions over the past years, Israel made sure that they will never be safe. I don’t want one more American tax payer dollar going to their defense. They can deal with the consequences of their own actions.

There will be hell to pay for Israel one day. A reckoning. It won't be soon maybe but it will come.

Did Palestine/Hamas allow Red Cross access to Israeli POWs?
Were the hostages treated according to the terms of the Geneva Conventions?
If not, Israel does not have an obligation to reciprocate, under the Geneva Conventions.

Why did the Biden administration fund Israel?

The US has been funding israel in a bi-partisan manner since the 1940's. It isn't a "Biden" thing since you know, the Congress makes the budget.

Some protests against Hamas. One of them was murdered by Hamas.
