APEX leadership fundraising—convince me

Our elementary school is doing an APEX leadership fundraiser, and I’m wary of the tactics used to mobilize the children into fundraisers. I’m surprised this is happening in a public school. Curious to hear about others’ experiences with this group. Thanks!

Nope - our kids are not allowed to participate in any nonsense fundraisers. Talk to your PTA officers and teach them about the best fundraiser: put out a "buy nothing benefit"

Parents "buy" nothing. Kids sell nothing. Parents make a donation, get a tax write off, and the kids at school benefit.

APEX is sort of the worst of the bad options in my experience. They take a shockingly high amount of the profits and put a lot of pressure on the kids.

The problem is that they make it easy on the school, so if you are going to object, you need to offer them a solution that is equally easy, which means parent-organized.

With APEX, a school takes 50% of what is raised.

With a parent-led fundraiser, the school gets 100%, but if no parents step us, the school gets 0.

I have attended school meeting. They love to use APEX because school almost does not have to do anything with raising money. Kids come home talking about APEX donations, online sharing and etc to get a chance of getting pizza party, cheap toys and etc.. I have no ideas that 50 percent of the fundraising funds go to APEX.

$1/lap per child is $36 + $4 processing fee equals $40 to Apex. That gives a kid one plastic wristband for $40. I have 2 kids, so $80 in total for each kid getting a cheap plastic wristband at the end, lol.

This is fine at wealthier schools, but, for those of us who are on PTA boards at schools with a lot lower income families, asking every family to donate money is just not an effective fundraiser. First gen immigrant families also don't really get what the PTA does or why you need to raise money, so even if they have the money to give, they may be reluctant to do so.

This is so confusing because the WJHS program is called Apex, so I thought this thread was about that. I’ve never heard of the other thing.
