How many of you have really close friends?

55yo and have seen some friends and many acquaintances. DH just left for a weekend trip with a friend and I can't find plans for every night so feeling lonely. Wondering if I'm the only one who doesn't have a lot of close friends.

I’m early 40s and I don’t have any close friends in NYC. Just me, husband and kids. I have two friends I text with through out the week who lives in other places in the US. I used to make effort but then felt it was not reciprocated, so I gave up!

I've never really had friends. I was just talking with a coworker I'm work-friends with and mentioned that part of why I don't travel is because of finances but also I don't have anyone to go with. And yes, I could travel alone or with a tour group but it's not the same as being with a friend. I already do everything else alone - I don't want to travel alone too.

Why is this in NYC?

I do, but I'll concede that making and keeping close friends in NYC is hard because so many people don't live here for the duration. I'm fortunate to have several friends who've stayed, but I've also lost touch with some really great people who have moved away.

I have a lot of close friends in NYC, but not many that would be free on a weekend night because all of us have young kids.

I understand this. For me, it's almost like...did the trip really happen if I didn't travel with someone and have someone to share it with. Otherwise, it's like just a memory of my own. It seems odd to me to travel alone.

Very relatable. It is so draining being the initiator all the time. I also try to do this for my young kids in setting up play dates but the same thing happens where people flake and do not reciprocate. I am a bit more tolerant on behalf of my kids but it’s really draining too.
