National Academy League

For those clubs in MLSNext, my understanding is that historically, their Team 2 would play in NAL. Now that there is the new MLSNext 2 tier (operated by NAL), my understanding is that NAL’s own league will still operate and that presumably MLSNext clubs will put their 3rd team in NAL (instead of NCSL or EDP or other).

Have any local MLSNext clubs announced that they will be doing this - putting their team 3 in the NAL league? (SYC?, Alexandria?, Bethesda?, Loudon?, etc?). Or will they just stay in NCSL or EDP or other?

based on bethesda's ig, it appears they will be playing NAL for the 3rd team.

McLean says they are playing in it (their Team 2, since their Team 1 is MLSNext 2).

VRSC will not publicly admit this because they’re sour af that the soccer shot callers view them as nothing more than a rich club with no intrinsic value pertaining to YOUTH development.

As a parent with a kids on the 3rd team at Alexandria I sure as heck hope this isn’t the case or that the regions shrink as parents on the 2nd team have been driving to just outside NYC for a game each season.

If I’m not ECNL or MLS I want to remain local not spend my weekends going out of state for a single game.

This is the nice part of ECNL RL as games are all local for the most part.

I 100% agree! We are in the same boat! And if our club goes NAL for 3rd team but other area clubs don’t, seems to mean we will just have to travel further and further.

And it’s not worth it. I can see teams 1 and 2 with regional travel but most parents won’t do it for anything other than a tourney for a 3rd team or lower.

We’d have to move clubs - I won’t drive that far for a kid who is ranked within the clubs midpoint.

NCSL EDP or local competition is good enough for a 3rd team. N
