Going to pick up DD at W&M this week. I want to spend a day at a VA Beach (waiting for her to end classes). Where is good place to park and set up a chair? Just to sit on the sand and look at the water. I don't know VA Beach at all. |
We stayed near Fort Story one year and it was quiet. |
Near the Neptune sculpture |
Is there lots of street parking? |
This time of year you could just park near the Neptune statue. |
Yes with ParkMobile |
While my first choice is somewhere in the north end, you wouldn’t have access to a bathroom so at Laskins & Atlantic, by the Neptune statute, is probably a better choice bc I believe there are public bathrooms near there. |
Go sit around at the Marriott. They have a nice deck and have a bar there if you want to have a drink. |
I can't imagine it'll be too terribly busy at Virginia Beach this week. Stay on 264 and it'll end a couple blocks from the beach. Find an open street spot, lot, garage spot along Atlantic or Pacific Ave and then walk over to the beach. It's also nice to just walk along the boardwalk. |
Just be aware, depending on what time you leave the beach, it could easily take 2 hrs to get back to W&M. Tunnel traffic at rush hour is bad. |
\ Wow. Thanks for this. Didn't know about this. |
If you want to sit and look at water, Yorktown Beach is much closer to W&M. It’s on a river, not the ocean, but Virginia Beach proper is really not very close to Williamsburg. |
It is relatively close. It is the traffic. You need to avoid peak times. |
This. Worse than American Legion Bridge gets at rush hour. Some people get nervous about the tunnel and slow down to 20-25 mph. This backs things up instantly and it takes hours to recover. |
Agree with everyone about the tunnel. To avoid it, you could sit on the beach at Ft. Monroe. It's on the W&M side and looks out at the mouth of the Chespeake. |
