Chisholm Elementary is a high-demand, arts integrated, dual-language school with a diverse student body and a strong academic program. However, families face a major challenge - there is no nearby DCPS dual-language middle school for students to continue their bilingual education. As a result, many families are forced to:
• Leave DCPS entirely, seeking bilingual options in charters or other jurisdictions. • Commute across the city, an unsustainable burden for working families. • Abandon bilingual education, losing the years of investment in language development that DCPS has supported. Currently the only DCPS and PCS dual-language middle schools are in NW. The Chisholm community is advocating to expand our school during our modernization (set to begin in SY26) to include a middle school so that not only our students, but students from surrounding dual-language schools such as Houston, Stokes, and Mundo Verde might have more opportunities to continue their dual-language education beyond elementary school. We have a unique opportunity to build sustainable, equitable, and high-quality middle school pathway and we are urging DCPS to close this education gap.
