Switching preschools at this time of year?

I just learned that the director of my twins' montessori school is suggesting that we look for a non-montessori preschool with smaller class sizes. Putting aside my aggravation that she's just telling us now--as opposed to the end of last school year--can anyone advise on who to go about finding a new preschool just a few weeks into the school year? And any recommendations on schools in NW DC or near-DC Bethesda?

Why is the director of the montessori school suggesting that your children leave the school? The answer to that question might help when making recommendations for your twins.

Can't the director give you a short-list of places and make some calls herself, considering the inconvenience of her timing? I wouldn't think it unreasonable to ask...
