Well this is going great. Our former allies are now teaming up with our biggest rivals against us.

And China has blocked the sale of multiple ports around the world (including those at the Panama Canal) to Black Rock.

And Canada has joined the EU common purchase alliance. Who exatcly will our companies be selling goods and services to?

Because it won't be Europe, Central or South American or China/Korea/Japan.

I guess that leaves Russia, North Korea and Hungary.

The saddest thing is there is no coming back from this. Even if the US elects an all-Democratic Presidency and Congress in 2028, the long-ter damage to US credibility means that no US trade agreement or military treaty will be taken seriously in the future. Eventually our status as world reserve currency will be eclipsed, maybe by China, as nations understand how fragile our government actually is. Like Russia, the US will only have the "stick" of a huge military to sway other nations.

It will take 20-30 years if goodwill before any of our current allies consider taking us back.

For the life of me I don’t know what Trump and his team are thinking. His behavior is so erratic. Other countries are just going to start doing their own thing and ignoring the U.S.

I remember back in 2015 talking to a NY private equity guy at a Manhattan business dinner. We were both remarking that no one in the business world actually conducts themselves like then-candidate Trump — no one wants to do business with someone who huffs and puffs and blusters, it’s just not how serious business is done. The private equity guy told me that no one he knew had ever done any deals with Trump.

Can’t believe so many Americans fell for his schtick. Again. It’s like a bad dream.
