I asked a related question the other day on the choice between Berkeley and top privates (JHU and Vandy).
The consensus is that Berkely may be the best choice because of the major. If the cost is the same and the West Coast location is not a problem, I'm curious if Berkeley could be a better choice than schools like Cornell and Dartmouth. |
| Is this just idle curiosity? Apply and see. Probably not getting into all three. Cornell and Berkeley both way better for CS. No way a kid wouldn’t have a preference between the two. |

Completely different cultures. Visit them all and see where your child is most comfortable. And which price tag is most comfortable.
I like Dartmouth's culture much more than the other two schools, and that would outweigh that it is likely weaker in the major. But for many people they would feel the exact opposite. Different strokes for different folks. |

A CSU.
Your state flagship. |
| DS went to Cornell, works for Amazon, and has commented they do a lot of hiring from Berkley (and UW). Could be that Cornell kids prefer the East Coast or could be they like Berkley grads.. |
+1 I would choose Dartmouth for overall experience. |
Cornell's tiny compared to those schools |
| Have you been to Berkeley in the past 10 years? |
|
Cornell and UCB are head and shoulders ahead of Dartmouth for CS.
Different settings. Fit would be a big thing here between the two. You cant go wrong with either. |
|
Dartmouth would be a classic collegiate experience. Greek life, sports, bucolic.
Cornell and Berkeley are big research universities with better networking with grad students, research opportunities. |
Your other post said you were ACCEPTED to Berkeley, Hopkins and Vanderbilt. Now throwing in Cornell and Dartmouth? Strange |
+1. Troll. |
binge drinking and creating alcoholics? |
| Academically they are similar. Geography alone suggests UCB iff one wants to work in Silicon Valley. |
