BMW X7 experiences?

Anonymous
Looking for a 3-row luxury family SUV. This one came highly-recommended.

Does anyone have an X7 with young kids and how do you like it?

I have one and do not like it. To be fair, I generally do not like driving BMWs. I find certain quirks very irritating (the tech interface, climate control and automatic doors are unreliable). I also found the car to be very cumbersome and overall just too big for me to drive (I live in a city). I've driven Volvos in the past and will go back to that once my lease is up. I got the X7 because I wanted 3 rows and it was a better deal to lease than similar cars, but I would not get again

The dealers sock it to you on maintenance and repairs.

After the warranty and included service agreement run out. Thereafter many people take their vehicles to independent shops.

Expensive to own. Expensive to maintain. Expensive to fix.

Funny, just today I saw a woman in the pickup line at the local pharmacy driving a brand new X7 in the super fast ALPINA spec. That's an odd and expensive vehicle for a mom, isn't it?

Very expensive to buy and maintain (once the maintenance package ends). All parts are more expensive than you'd expect. Putting that aside, we love ours. Incredibly easy to drive. Quick and nimble for a car its size. Interface is fine in my view, I know others have a different take.

What gave the mom part away?

Funny. We have a Volvo xc90 and my husband wants to sell it for an x7. We also own an x3, which I love driving. I don’t love driving a three row car but we have three young kids so when we’re all together, it’s necessary

Looks better than many alternatives.

Yes, BMWs are expensive to maintain, but so are other import brands like Porsche, Mercedes, and others. You pay a price for a superior product, but if the attributes those brands offer don't appeal to you, you can certainly save money by looking elsewhere. There's something for every taste and price point out there.

Mercedes GLS is better. X7s sit in the lot a very long time for some reason.
