Why people look down on T5 lacs? It seems the majority of kids (and parents) desire T20 university.
|
| Example? |
| What are the T5 Lacs? |
| Different strokes for different folks. Universities are larger and have more opportunities, clubs, research, etc. LACs are more nurturing, focused on teaching — and may be better shielded from the chaos of the current regime. |
Most people don't. But you're on the internet the where loud, simplistic, and boorish opinions often seem to dominate over things like nuance, fact-based knowledge, and humility. Both T20 universities and T5 LACs are great, and 99% of high school students would be extraordinarily fortunate to attend either. |
| NP - my DH is insisting that Georgetown is a better school in all respects than Amherst. I am sort of surprised by that type of statement, but this is an example of how some people feel about LACs that I just don't understand. |
| Some people want a small sports car, other people want a big SUV…they serve different functions, so it’s hard to say one is “better” than the other. |
| LAC boosters either have an inferiority complex or looking for justification for spending $360,000 for a bachelor's degree for a school 50% of the public isn't familiar. |
I don't understand it either. |
| cmon DCUM fawns over the SLACs big time - i had one kid go to a T5 SLAC and second kid at a T20. Number 3 is not even considering a SLAC - majority of kids are boarding school ivy rejects or wannabe ivy reject athletes - hard pass |
This. |
| Actually, quite a few that rejected Ivy to attend LAC T5 that DC met. |
in no particular order swarthmore williams bowdoin pomona amherst wellesley yes, there are 6 not 5 |
This! But there is a particular strain of LAC-bashers on these threads, who simply don't get their value. I think the majority of those posters were not educated in the US to begin with, so just think the whole concept of LACs is weird. They're only familiar with, and understand, big national universities. |
| My DD is at one and chose it over Brown. I have yet to run into anyone in real life who looks down on her choice, and she's doing just fine. |
