Comment: doesn’t trump understand that by doing this, he will likely eliminate any chance of Maryland voting for his administration’s chosen successor? (who is likely to be JD Vance it appears). Maryland voters will probably be angry with trump for years to come! |

| Some of the cuts are from closing the regional centers though. 10,000 are voluntary retirements and separations, the other 10,000 will be layoffs but somewhat spread across the country. |

Around 9,000 of the HHS job losses will come from Maryland alone if they are equally distributed across the country. That is almost 1/300 workers in the state losing their job from these cuts. The proportionate share is close to 1% of total employment for MOCO. It will be disastrous. People need to be protesting this weekend. This is apocalyptic for the county. |

This is so stupid and they are living in the past at this point. The problem for MOCO will be foreclosures and declining tax revenue. We don’t have the luxury of worrying about subsidies for affordable housing at this point. |

Look, progressives have to touch grass and face reality - your entire way of life has been permanently wounded. All of the govt jobs and days of secondary leeching off the govt teat through nonprofit, contractor, and consulting jobs are over. MoCo cannot keep spending and taxing like nothing has changed and everything is like it was for the last 70 years. Those days are over. We need massive county govt slashing. Massive reduction in taxation. Burn all of the red tape down. MoCo needs to accelerate NOW at making the county attractive for business other than those that rely on the govt while VA is getting slammed for the same reasons. MoCo needs to beat VA to the punch this time.
Progressives have to come to grips with the reality of the situation, which means severe austerity for the county for the foreseeable future. Enough with wasting time on the affordable housing crap. There's about to be massive amounts of affordable housing as thousands of people have to flee the DMV for new jobs, or foreclose becise they have no more income. No more programs for migrants. No more affordable housing for undocumented. No more free lunches for all of the poverty. No more raises for teachers and their pensions every year. The county should focus only maintaining the bare minimum number of police and teachers needed by law, then divert ALL funds immediately to unemployment relief and unemployment programs. Absolutely unreal progressives are so out of touch with the massive meteor that's about to crash and cause Armageddon for the county. They're still trying to talk about tax hikes so they can spend even more money? WTF!!???? Their tax base is about to CRASH because of huge unemployment. |
