MCPS Educational Foundation inc.

What do they do? Do each high schools have a separate education foundation?

Not every school has one, but the basic purpose is that the Educational Foundation has freedoms that the PTA does not, in terms of spending. An ed foundation can save money year-over-year for a big expense (PTAs are expected to spend down every year) and they can pay stipends that PTAs cannot. They usually work very closely with the PTAs.

I cannot figure it out. I don't see them doing anything directly for the schools we are at. (lower income schools). I contacted them for help for something they advertise they do and was told no.

What did you ask for? Are you a staff member? Staff members can request grants but I imagine the foundation has limited funds and needs to make sure they are equitable in their support across the county and not just at specific schools. They post their financials online so you can get an idea of how the money is spent: https://www.mcpsfoundation.org/file/documents/Form990Package-Final-11.11.24.pdf Looks like most of the money is used on scholarships

They still have the right to say no.

The one in Gaithersburg and the one in Montgomery Village are both very active.

They are non-profits. Money comes from donations, fund raisers, local businesses, etc.

Simply curious, do you know why that name instead of the high school name?

The Montgomery Village Foundation is the homeowner’s corporation for Montgomery Village (where Watkins Mill HS is located). Post a link to the organization you are talking about, because this doesn’t make sense as it stands.

There is one countywide org: https://www.mcpsfoundation.org/

And then some schools have their own separate foundations, like Whitman: https://www.whitmanfoundation.org/
