Let’s just call it what it is: SYC only cares about winning and image. The “development” talk sounds good on paper, but the actions don’t match. Key performances were completely ignored because they didn’t come from the usual favorites.
Selective shoutouts and constant favoritism send a clear message: if you're not already in the spotlight, your effort doesn’t matter. It’s disrespectful, demoralizing, and the exact opposite of what a real development program should be. These are kids giving their all, and they deserve better than to be treated like background noise. Do better, SYC. All your players are watching—and so are the parents. |
We played SYC a few years back and you have 4 different parents filming everything. Completely obnoxious in a 8-0 type game with excessive cheering beating down a clearly inferior opponent. That's SYC as I've seen from higher end teams as well in other AGs. |
| They. Do. Not. Care. It’s actually fascinating how they couldn’t give less f**ks about anything a parent has to say. |

Valid observation, but this occurs at every club.
Glorifying the forwards or whoever clubs want to spotlight has always been the MO of all clubs. |

This was their recent post:
Our SYC MLS NEXT teams recently faced Philly Union, one of the nation’s top academies, achieving 3 wins and 2 losses. It was inspiring to see players who have risen through our ranks, showcasing their dedication and hard work, supported by our incredible coaching staff. |

EM and PM sure know how to piss off parents. But again, if you are not in their circle your success will be overlooked.
How about xxxx on the 2011 Team? He started U9 travel on the bottom team and has been playing MLSNext the past 2 years. He scored 2 goals in the 3-0 against Philly Union! |

Genuine question from an outsider:
I saw the post and it was actually the first time I was impressed with SYC as it appeared to show that a kid can develop through the ranks. Was the post not accurate in highly underdog stories that we rarely hear about? Again, genuine question from an outsider. |
Why is this a problem? |
The stories sounded heartfelt and warm but the honest truth is those kids got 'moved' up due to their physical attributes. |
You think this is unique to SYC? If you are looking for actual development, move to Europe. What planet are you on? Why do you think there is such a massive market for training outside of the club environment? DO NOT EXPECT DEVELOPMENT FROM A BUSINESS BUILT ON WINNING. You are being used by these clubs to build their business so use them back. Disrespectful? You are paying for this!! |
| I don't really see an issue here... |
I'm with you. I've seen SYC over the years as an opponent's parent, and I don't think highly of their style of play or a select few of their parents. That said, this post seemed great. I really like that they called out kids who had been with the program, especially considering how much they recruit outside kids. |
Was there an air horn? |
What does that mean? A kid worked his way up from the bottom team to the top team and you say it had nothing to do with his hard work, just his luck in..what? being tall? being fast? having red hair? |
See this is why it's fun to peek into other clubs posts lol. It's the same complaints about lack of development and "favoritism" when the other kids parents are paying for training or training their kids at home. Then when those kids play more or get more opportunities it's due to "favoritism", nepotism and the club is doing nothing to develop lol. |
