This school is going to the dumps. There is no accountability with the curriculum, teachers picking and choosing what to teach with no regard to standards. 8th graders in this school are reading at 2nd and 3rd grade levels! DO NOT SEND your kids here. There’s a reason they just cut half their staff, they’re a sinking ship. |
Wow.
They did lose 50 kids in their enrollment relative to last year. I suppose that's the reason for the staff cuts. |
They cut half their staff for next year or immediately? It's bad either way, but immediate cuts would be a real jaw drop. |
CMI was sinking 5 years ago. I’m surprised it’s still around. |
+1. I remember people saying CMI is bad shortly after it moved to that beautiful campus, and that must be years ago by now. |
The expensiveness of the campus is one of the reasons for the trouble. It's too pretty, it attracted people who want that kind of preschool and then they couldn't pivot to academics in mid elementary the way parents actually want even though they may not realize it when their kids are little. |
Wow. I remember when we did the PK lottery 10 years ago that everyone wanted to go to CMI. |
Same. We didn’t get in anywhere that year and our kid stayed at their CBO, which ended up being great. I guess just an fyi in advance of lottery results coming out tonight. The grass isn’t always greener. |
How is this school even open? |
15 years ago when my eldest didn't get into creative minds was a total bummer for me.
why is it so bad now? I figured that their theater-music-creative approach was cool back then. what happened now? |
I think back when it was newer, people were giving the benefit of the doubt on academics. But those days are gone. Also the nearby DCPS seem to have genuinely improved. |
We attended for a very short period of time and pulled our kid. Do not recommend. |
I don't know how it is still open, but spread the word. With lottery results coming out soon, DO NOT GO HERE! |
They have lost a lot since the beginning of this school year too. |
Why on earth would you actually send your kids to this school?!?! It's called international with no focus on anything international, the academics are terrible... plus there is no high school track and the location is challenging for most.
you have to remember timelines ---> DC started offering free prek in 2009, which encouraged a lot more families to want to stay in the City, but the DCPS schools weren't particularly good (yet), and not a lot of parents wanted to send their 3 years to them. CMI entered the chat in 2012, with its beautiful campus and a lot of promises and from 2012-2017 it was HIGHLY sought after. However by 2017 the parents (especially with the ones that were now in upper elementary) had caught on to the fact that the founders didn't actual care at all about academics of all students ( and had really only started the school to foster the development of their special needs child), and most families were leaving. Meanwhile - a lot of the DCPS schools were remodeled and way more enticing. By the time COVID hit, and CMI leaned into some of the most extreme covid policies in 2020 and 2021 across all of DC .... game over. no thanks. - signed a previous parent. |
