Preschool and Daycare Discussion
|
Just wanted to mention that i learned through the grapevine that our wonderful preschool is looking to fill a couple spots after some late august departures primarily to the County preschoool programs. The school is Kinhaven and it is located in Ballston across the street from the metro. Our son is starting his third year and we LOVE the school. It is a parent-governed school with a 100% professional teaching staff. It is a great community of caring families that pitch in to help each other out with all sorts of things from play dates to answering a frantic call to be picked up at Michaels when their 2 yo loses the keys in the store (lesson learned - maybe my 2 yo should not hold keys!). The Executive Director, Amy Hitchcock, is FABULOUS! I can not say enough about her. Nurtures the little ones in our 1 yo class, talks big boy stuff with the 4 yo and then can adeptly plan and excute a fabulous brunch for a fundraising committee of the school. I have never encountered something that Amy can not handle effectively, efficiently and with grace and poise. If you are still looking for a spot, I would highly recommend the school.

We also attend Kinhaven and can confirm that there is an opening in the 4s class (older 3 or 4) and the Junior Kindergarten (4 or 5). My son attends the Junior kindergarten and just loves the teacher. Here is the write up from the director -
Looking for a fun, enriching preschool environment for your 4-year-old? Kinhaven School has a spot for you! Our 4’s class and Junior Kindergarten class (older 4’s and 5-year-olds) meet Monday through Friday from 9:30-1:00. Space is available to start right away for the 2010-11 school year. Registering a 4-year-old means that younger siblings get priority enrollment in our 1’s, 2’s and 3’s classes as spaces become available. Kinhaven's teaching philosophy is that young children learn best through play. Located in the Ballston area, Kinhaven has been an Arlington institution for 40 years. It is administered by a professional staff with support from a strong community of involved families. Free on-site parking is available. To learn more, visit www.kinhaven.com or call the office at 703-525-4636. |
| I also have 2 children at Kinhaven and want to echo the PPs' comments. We have been at the school for the past 3 years and couldn't be happier. I also wanted to mention that Kinhaven is an independent, non-denominational school so it leads to a lot of diversity in our student body which is a major positive in my book. |
| Just wanted to update that i heard all the spots except one have been filled. The last spot is for a girl in the JK program (older 4's and 5's). My son is actually in that class and the teacher is excellent!... She has a great plan for the year and she is well underway to getting the kids ready for Kindergarten next fall. Even week one she had a medieval theme going and had a pot-luck Feast. |
