Colleges in Canada

Other than McGill that you or your kid liked and would recommend. Why? Did they return to US after college?

Unin of Toronto?? Anything good there?

University of Toronto is probably the "top" school in Canada, especially for research. Excellent academics in a great city. I think they post info about what gpa and test scores are required for each major to be considered for admission...which is nice.

Main negative is it is a huge public school, probably as big as UCLA and Michigan combined. A lot of commuters. Less student support than most US schools. Toronto is a great location but not as beautiful as British Columbia or as interesting as Montreal.

I concur with all this. One the plus side the St. George campus is truly in the center of the city and has several subway stops immediately next to the campus. My daughter loved her tour of University of Toronto and preferred the school over McGill. She ended up at an American university.

Another option to consider is University of Waterloo-- excellent for tech and for career placement in Silicon Valley.

+1 on Waterloo for computer science and related fields. Well known in the US for that.

Toronto. The college system helps make such a large uni feel a little smaller, too.

Queen's University in Kingston; University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario; UBC in Vancouver. Just to name a few other great schools.

There is a reason that US schools have 10x the number of Canadian students studying in the US versus US students studying in Canada.

Queen's University (in Kingston, in between Montreal and Toronto) is amazing. Great in life sciences, arts, engineering and especially good for business. Has a med school and lots of research opportunities. Small college town with Scottish vibes and lot of spirit - Oil thay! Nephew went and got recruited for finance internship in NYC. Very good cost affordability and no Trump restrictions on research, free speech or funding freezes. Also it's legal to drink at 19 years old so no illegal fraternity binge drinking parties. All drinking is done legally in public at licensed and regulated campus pubs that will cut off heavy drinkers.

Lots of good degrees offered at UT. The main campus, called St George, is in downtown Toronto. It is integrated into downtown with good streetcar service. Looking into how housing works as they have a residential college setup.

UT, U British Columbia, U Waterloo, McGill, and U Guelph are all worth looking into. Microsoft and FAANG hire huge numbers of Waterloo CS/engineering graduates and have done for years.

Also, if a student is interested in a liberal arts, great books program, Dalhousie is fantastic. U of T is HUGE and very much a commuter school- the college culture in Canada is extremely different.

Look into Mount Allison and Acadia, which offer some of the attributes of NESCACs, such as Williams, Amherst, Bowdoin and Hamilton.

UVic is one of the most beautiful, but no idea on curriculum
