It's worth a read - not just anecdotes, but data showing tourism down. I know, great, right? Who needs tourism! Other than it bringing $2.3 trillion to the US economy - or not! |
its going to be hard on Florida. |
There are two special elections in Florida coming up shortly, maybe they will save themselves. |
I'm OP and I live in Florida - and don't get your hopes up. The only thing more incompetent than the Trump administration is Florida Dems. |
“ The research firm Tourism Economics had originally forecast travel to the United States to grow by 9 percent this year, but in February, it updated its outlook, expecting inbound travel to decline by 5.1 percent and hotel demand to decline by 0.8 percent in 2025 — the equivalent of an $18 billion drop in spending. Much of the decline is the result of a boycott by Canadian travelers. In February, after President Trump announced tariffs on Canada, the number of Canadians driving across the border fell by 24 percent compared with the same period in 2024.”
Actions have consequences. Canadians have been the biggest supporters of the US, content to be the “little guy” except in hockey, and represent the largest number of travellers to the US. The tariffs were annoying, and now it doesn’t feel safe to enter. |
Those canadians pumped billions of dollars into the economy of several key states most particularly Florida and NJ and the part of NJ is Atlantic County ie the Trumpy part. |
It's going to be hard for many areas. Alaska s already saying they are seeing a decline in tourism. |
“The number of overseas visitors to the United States fell 2.4 percent in February from a year earlier, government data shows, with the biggest drops in travelers from Africa (down 9 percent), Asia (7 percent) and Central America (6 percent). Meanwhile, travel from China — a frequent target of the president’s ire — is down 11 percent.”

good going MAGAs, keep them dang fereners outta Murica. |
This is actually what America voted for. To keep those filthy foreigners out of our country. Or so I am told. |
Canadian airlines are cancelling flights to several American cities due to ongoing trade disputes and growing boycotts.

Good. I'm glad they're spelling it our wrt the tariffs and the condescension. |
This is misleading. While 2.3 trillion is the aggregate value of ALL travel and tourism in the US, only about 5% of that figure is attributable to international tourism. "Visitors from many countries spend an average of over $4,000 per visit, and collectively contribute $155 billion in U.S. travel spending every year."" https://www.ustravel.org/news/new-economic-forecast-highlights-growth-international-visits-us |
