The Hoya reports Georgetow moving to Common App

That's pretty big news in the college admissions world. The university hasn't commented, nor has Common App, so could be rumor, but that's a significant change for Georgetown. There applications may close to double next year.

News of the century. Welcome Georgetown to the new century!

Please now let them embrace Early Decision as well!

I posted this in the "new for the class of 2026" thread last week. It will drive GU numbers to single digits and SFS to low single digits.

Will they still require interviews and all test scores? Seems like a logistical nightmare to manage increasing apps.

Wonder what the acceptance rate will be post Common App....possibly under 5%.

Nah, they would need ED for that, and/or need blind for internationals. More like 8%. Still pretty low!

Do you think they're just modernizing, or are they trying to drive applications way up?

What differences does it make? Honestly I don't see any substantive change?

The College typically has a lower acceptance rate than SFS, typically.

Do you understand how college admissions work? Virtually every top university accepts the common app, which allows students to send one application (plus any school specific essays) to every school to which they apply. Georgetown's application totals have trailed its peers because it has not accepted the common app and many students have chosen not to apply for that reason (it's more work to fill out an application for a single school). With that barrier removed, Georgetown can expect a significant increase in applications.

Their old application was such a pain in the ass and the activity section was weird.

Will they go TO next? Really hope so.

Maybe they’ll introduce ED next? I feel like their yield would crater with people just submitting random apps now. I don’t think they’ll double applicants though, they’re still text required and I can’t see that changing with the current climate.
