and my immediate thought was. "How much do they plan to steal," not a question but a statement.

I seriously doubt there is much, if any, gold still there.

There isn't that much gold in the entire world really, about a 30x30x30meter cube if all the gold in the entire world was all melted and pooled together.

"As of 2020, Fort Knox holds approximately 147.34 million troy ounces (4,583 metric tons) of gold, representing about 56.35% of the United States' total gold reserves.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Total Gold: The United States Bullion Depository at Fort Knox holds 147.34 million troy ounces (4,583 metric tons) of gold.

Market Value: This gold has a market value of approximately US $290.9 billion.
Percentage of US Reserves: This amount represents 56.35% of the total gold reserves of the United State

Total US Reserves: As of 2021, the U.S. gold reserves total 8,134 metric tons."

Just did the math for that, and 4500 metric tons of gold would be a cube 20x20x20ft in dimension, while 9000 metric tons would be a little over 25x25x25ft.

Surprisingly small amount when compared to the total amount of gold known to exist in the world.

Oh and I should have said 22m sq here instead of 30m, or roughly a 72x72x72 ft cube.

3% of all the world's gold in one room is quite a lot.

More surprisingly, none of the numbers can be trusted because they won't allow an audit.

That is 25 trillion dollars.
